Orthodontic Comfort Visits

Comfort Visits Related to Orthodontic Appliances

Broken or disturbed appliances are likely to occur from time to time during your orthodontic care.  If there is any disturbance such as loose bands, broken or poking wires, call our office as soon as possible so that we can evaluate the urgency of the problem and schedule you to be seen accordingly.  If you have an emergency and need assistance outside of business hours, please call our office.  You will receive directions for assistance. In the interim, the following are helpful hints to remedy some of the problems you may encounter until you can be seen in our office:

  • If a wire is irritating your mouth, cover it with orthodontic wax.  Please call to be scheduled on the next business day to trim the wire.

  • A loose band or bracket can generally be left in pace until seen in our office.  Call the office as soon as you notice a loose band or bracket so we can see you within two weeks.  Failure to notify our office regarding a loose or broken appliance before your next regularly scheduled appointment may cause treatment to be extended longer.

  • A broken archwire, or one that is irritating the gum or cheek tissue, needs to be seen within one week so Dr. Cooke may trim or replace it.  Please use wax to make you comfortable.

  • A removable appliance that is not fitting well is not to be worn until it can be properly adjusted in our office.  Call the office as soon as possible to schedule an appointment to have the removable appliance adjusted.

All comfort visits are scheduled mid-day (between 9am and 1pm).  As a team, we ensure that you and your family will be well cared for during and after office hours.
